ICON_DEF

ESS Defense products include syntactic void filler materials for large vessels, and syntactic structural material for AUVs, providing strength and buoyancy.

SYNTACTIC VOID FILLER

Specially engineered and formulated to serve as void filler for subsea applications, these syntactic materials are provided as multi-part kits that are mixed and poured into any free-flood cavity or void. Void spaces in both steel or composite structures may be filled with syntactic to fine tune ballast capability, reduce in-water weight of large components during deployment or simply to reduce corrosion.

ESS-provided kits have been used in Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Pearl Harbor, and the shipyard at the Point Loma Naval Base.

We’ve also performed on-site syntactic installation at Point Loma, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Northrop Grumman Newport News, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Kings Bay Shipyard, the Subsea Naval Base in Groton and syntactic fills of customer-provided parts at our Attleboro, Massachusetts facility.  > Learn More...

STRUCTURAL MATERIALS

The impressive mechanical properties of ESS syntactic materials provide strength and structural integrity at a significantly lower weight per volume than most traditional materials. In addition, exceptional thermal protection and resistance to water absorption make syntactic foam the ideal solution for many Marine, Defense, off-shore and mining applications. > Learn More...

LOW FST MATERIALS

FireShield – LFST is a low-density syntactic material specifically designed to meet the flame, smoke and toxicity requirements of the construction industry. Providing all the strength of traditional building materials at a fraction of the weight, Fireshield –LFST installs quickly and easily reducing labor and material costs. In addition to being ideally suited for applications where adherence to fire safety codes are mandatory, FireShield-LFST provides the additional benefit of radio frequency wave transparency, for improved communication. > Learn More...
